Everyone's biology is different and our uniqueness makes us awesome, this also makes a one-size fits all recommendations for our products difficult and we are not able to provide guidance for the pediatric use of our products.

For legal and safety reasons we recommend consulting with a medical professional regarding any pediatric health concerns.

For any concerns about cholesterol, please be sure to consult with your primary health care physician. We have some information you can check regarding cholesterol and your health which can be found here:

What is Cholesterol?

This is complicated because it has to do with the difference between labeling laws and laboratory assays. Chicory mostly isn't counted as a fiber as per labeling law. On the other hand, "net carbs" isn't a recognized term in labeling law. The law says that we can use the term, but it has to be apart from the FDA-mandated "Nutrition Facts" panel, and we must also state how we came up with the number.

Since chicory is a carbohydrate but also a source of indigestible inulin, we subtract it from the total carbs to give you the "net carbs" which is the actual amount that will lead to a glycemic response in your body. The chicory does no such thing. But it is still considered a carb, not a fiber. The gram of fiber on the Nutrition Facts panel comes from chicory (which does contain a small amount of fiber; see, I told you it was complicated!). In this case, showing a "Net Carbs" calculation as being "Total Carbs – prebiotics" provides more information than the FDA-mandated Nutrition Facts panel. Chicory inulin is prebiotic BECAUSE it is mostly not digested (apart from that 1 gram).

Thanks for asking! Unlike the majority of companies who choose a starch like GMO corn-derived maltodextrin or a milk-based medium (which are at risk of mold and allergen contamination during processing and can contain enough digestible starch or sugar to keep you from entering ketosis), we use non-GMO, highly-branched cyclic maltodextrin in our flavored Collagen Proteins.

Highly-branched cyclic dextrin is superior because it’s free of milk allergens, its high molecular weight lets it pass through your stomach very quickly, and its branched structure keeps it from causing a glucose spike. That means you can stay in ketosis despite highly-branched cyclic dextrin’s carb content.

Collagen

Bulletproof Collagen Protein is made of predominantly Type I and a small amount of Type III bovine collagen that comes from pasture-raised cows without added hormones. Our Collagen is enzymatically processed several times, to leave its nutrition-giving peptides intact. That makes it highly bioavailable for maximum impact.

Our Collagen Protein is sourced from pasture raised cattle from South America. During months where grass is scarce they are fed natural feed and are never fed GMO products.

This may be caused from the prebiotic inulin. If prebiotics are not a part of your regular diet, you may experience some indigestion when first consuming Collagen Bars. This is a temporary side effect from feeding your gut flora and should go away as your body adjusts.

Inulin is an ingestible long-chain soluble fiber that your gut flora (the good bacteria you already have in your gut) can consume and ferment. You can think of prebiotic foods as high quality fuel for your gut bacteria.

We appreciate your concern regarding our Chocolate Collagen Protein; as the report from Consumer Labs mentioned, detectable levels of cadmium is fairly common in cacao based products as cadmium is inherent in the environment where cacao is grown. The Bulletproof Chocolate Collagen Protein was the only chocolate flavored collagen tested by Consumer Labs. The Consumer Labs data exceeded Prop 65 levels and Bulletproof currently labels Chocolate Collagen Protein for Prop 65 in California.

We've simply adjusted the serving size listed on the container to be inline with industry standards. Rest assured, our collagen is still the same great product and only a small labeling update has occurred.

Bulletproof Collagen comes from cows that spend most of their lives in pasture, eating grass. One of the many benefits of grass is that is less likely to be exposed to glyphosates. And, indeed, the independent, third party testing of our collagen that has been done has not found any glyphosates. One more reason to love our amazing, grazing cows!

Great question! Formulation (what an edible product is made of), sourcing (where do we get each ingredient), and logistics (how reliably can we get them) are complicated challenges to solve. Obviously we strive for the best tasting AND the most "Bulletproof" ingredients. If the presence of this ingredient bothers you, consider that in any processed food there will be ingredients that are there as processing aids—to help the functional ingredients stick together in bar form, etc.

If you would rather avoid any functional ingredients, unflavored collagen protein is a free-flowing pure powder you can add to lots of other foods. But you can't eat it straight from the bag! (You can mix it into water—meaning you need to have access to a container and water. Not as "easy to use" as our bars or flavored collagen powders).

Coffee

All coffee contains small amounts of acrylamide as a result of the roasting process. While acrylamide is in fact found in coffee, it’s also found in tons of other foods — and in much higher doses. The kicker: Most of those other foods don’t require health warnings. We do not test specifically for acrylamides because we have no reason to believe that our coffees differ from all other roasted Arabica coffees. If you'd like to learn more, checkout our blog post Coffee to Come With Cancer Warnings, Rules Calif. Judge

Great question - brewed, plain coffee contains no significant amount of the macro-nutrients, fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Adding Ghee, Brain Octane, or Collagen Protein will affect the final nutritional value of the drink and may increase the calorie content.

Our coffee will stay fresh in the sealed bag up to a year and 3-4 weeks once opened. For optimal freshness we recommend freezing any amount you won't use in that time.

For long term sealed storage with minimal degradation, freezing works. Just don’t open it until it returns to room temp to prevent condensation.

In the coffee world acidity is a desirable attribute associated with a high altitude coffee that is fresh, dry, bright, compared with low-grown duller tasting coffees. It is not the acid that the outside world uses; that acid is generally the feeling a person gets when drinking Robusta coffee – regardless of the roast level- which affects the stomach negatively. The acidity we’re referring to is more akin to the flavors and mouth feel we associate with citrus, like orange or lime juice. Of course, our coffee is the highest level of Arabica.

We do not test our coffee for pH but for flavor and quality. In general, the darker the roast the lower the acidity (technically on the pH scale). Coffees that are sold as having low acidity are generally lower altitude lower quality and a much darker roast.

Our coffee is tested for performance robbing toxins as a part of the Bulletproof Process for growing, harvesting and roasting our coffee so you get all the benefits of coffee without the negative health effects. We reject any green coffee that tests out of the specification of our proprietary toxin panel.

The beans are roasted in small batches in United States under the strictest conditions. Roasting the beans enhances their antioxidant capacity and flavor to provide you with a healthier, tastier cup of coffee.

We do have a recipe available that is specifically designed for non-coffee drinkers,

No-Coffee Vanilla Latte:

  • 2 cups hot water
  • Up to 2 tablespoons grass-fed unsalted butter (use your hunger as a guide)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla powder
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons C8 C10 MCT Oil or Brain Octane C8 MCT Oil (use your hunger as a guide)
  • Stevia or hardwood xylitol to taste
  • (optional) pinch of Himalayan salt

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until you have a creamy drink with a nice layer of foam on top. As with Bulletproof Coffee, an immersion blender works fine if you don’t have a high-powered blender handy.

Another option is to substitute an organic tea for the coffee in our Bulletproof Coffee recipe.

MCT Oil

Everyone's biology is different and our uniqueness makes us awesome. Unfortunately, that also makes a one-size fits all recommendation for our products difficult and we cannot make specific recommendations, nor anticipate how an individual's metabolism will respond to the use of nootropics or nootropic stacks.

Nootropic stacks can have vastly different responses among individual users. If you decide to test nootropics, introduce them slowly to your protocol, using less than a full serving and increase slowly over time, to the recommended usage as per the directions on the label.

Please be responsible and if you have any health concerns consult with your licensed healthcare professional for further advice.

MCT Oil is an effective nutritional solvent, which is why it helps to move nutrients into the body. There is no relationship between what MCT Oil does to a synthetic petroleum based cup and what it does to your body. A poorly formed Styrofoam cup that is most likely not all the way cured, will certainly have BPA in it.

Our bottles have the following statement listed on the label: All edible oils, including MCT Oil, react with certain plastics, including Styrofoam®, and should only be used with utensils and containers made of metal, glass, ceramic, or safe HDPE plastics. Our oils are packaged in a non-BPA, recyclable HDPE bottle to reduce the environmental impacts of padding, packing and shipping glass bottles. MCT Oil does not absorb chemicals from HDPE.

We use non-BPA, recyclable HDPE bottles to reduce environmental impacts of padding, packing and shipping glass bottles.

Our Brain Octane Softgels contain about 1/14th a tablespoon per capsule. They work to slow the digestion of Caprylic acid so it spends more time in your gut, balancing beneficial bacteria and helping maintain normal yeast levels.

Studies have shown that Caprylic fatty acids have gut biome balancing and potent microbial balancing effects that help to support healthy digestion and immune function.

Our Brain Octane C8 MCT Oil and C8 C10 MCT Oil is sourced from 100% coconut – no palm oil. However, our bars utilize MCT oil powder which lists palm kernel oil as an alternate source because when coconuts are unavailable, sustainably sourced palm kernel oil is minimally utilized.

We are actively working to reformulate our powdered MCT to be in line with our oils because of the impact that improper palm farming practices have on the environment. Bulletproof, alongside our supplier, belong to the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) which is dedicated to only purchasing sustainably produced palm kernel oil; calling for stronger regulations and enforcement in the industry.

Mix Ins

The source of the carbs in Instmix come from highly branched cyclic dextrin (HBCD) which is a designer carbohydrate that will make the grass fed butter, and Brain Octane C8 MCT Oil water soluble. HBCD has been shown in studies to not raise blood sugar values and the proposed mechanism is that it converts to muscle glycogen extremely efficiently (1.2x more efficient than liver glucose). This is why many athletes are using HBCD.

Unfortunately, due to dairy import restrictions and excessive tariffs, we are unable to ship our Grass-Fed Ghee into Canada at this time.

Supplements

Glutathione Force is manufactured using the Bulletproof proprietary Activated Liposomal delivery system to increase the bioavailability of glutathione. This helps it better support optimal cellular function and protecting against oxidative stress.

Rest assured this is perfectly normal and your Unfair Advantage hasn't been compromised, it just needs to be shaken. The separation that is occurring is a result of the micelles (fat droplets) of the PQQ and the CoQ10 and water separating out of solution simply due to sitting on the shelf. Think of it like an oil and vinegar dressing, just shake then serve.

The PQQ droplets are darker in color, the CoQ10 droplets lighter in color, and smidgen of clear, which is water. Anytime you mix fat into water it's hard to keep completely mixed the whole time.

About Bulletproof

Diet

Cashews may be a 'nut' that the Bulletproof Diet heeds warning on, but as long as they are sourced/processed correctly, and if you do not have high sensitivity to them, they can actually be quite healthy - check out this awesome article on the nutritional benefits of cashews:

7 Nutritional Benefits of Cashews

Here is more information if you are feeling it.

Sensible nutrition ideas, taken to an extreme, forever and always will end up being nonsensical. You can't avoid lectin unless you avoid all plant and animal foods. Two thoughts: avoid the worst offenders (bread, for starters), and make sure your diet has a healthy diversity of plants, especially leafy greens (may I suggest, the humble dandelion and its high in prebiotic fiber greens, delicious fried with onions or garlic or in a smoothie with blueberries). Part of the problem with lectin is not just lectin itself (and consumption of lectins have indeed gone way up compared to ancestral times since the advent of agriculture) but with the lack of diversity in our diet causing a drop in healthy gut cultures (which feed on a variety of prebiotic fiber) which could have dealt with those lectins for us.

Testing

Each ingredient used in Bulletproof products are submitted to standardized quality assurance testing and must pass stringent standards for heavy metals and other toxins.
